A PDF generated by a point-of-sale or booking system contains the actual characters. Reading them is exact — no smudges, no 8-vs-B mistakes.
If you have the choice, download or e-mail yourself the PDF receipt instead of photographing a paper one.
If a PDF is just a scan with no text layer, ReceiptCSV renders the page and runs on-device OCR on it — still in your browser. Accuracy then depends on the scan quality.
Encrypted PDFs can't be read and are rejected with a clear message — without using a conversion. Open the file, choose Print → Save as PDF, and drop the unlocked copy.
Long grocery and big-box receipts often span several pages. ReceiptCSV reads up to six pages per file and keeps weighed items, multi-buys and savings lines as separate rows.
